Somber Note: Eight & Nine Alliance til forever.... TORO R.I.P. - "What it do SON!"

10.19.08 - Eight & Nine Alliance Update:

This is a tough one for me, it's personal and straight from the heart. As time passes, the world gets crazier and crazier. People take more pride in gun talk and bravado then they do in respect, dignity, and general principles. Saturday, the Eight & Nine Alliance lost a soldier and I lost a friend, a good one. When I came to Miami, the music scene wasn't much to speak of on a National level. There was no Rick Ross, no Cool & Dre, no Fat Joe living in Miami, no Weezy, no video shoots every other week. This city, with a few key players and a ton of grinding put itself on the map. With that being said, some people are responsible and one of them is TORO.

Toro, put in his work, he was always everywhere, he was respected not feared, loved not taken for granted. From the first day, I ever met Toro, West of 7th Ave of course. I saw in his eyes that the kid was the truth, we shared a very simple respect of two people that understood we'd make it, be on top, and connect to cross our paths, join forces and further our movements. In the meantime, we kept on trucking. From Pitbull's first video shoot ever, Trick Daddy with the Ozzy Osbourne sample, all the way to Shawty Lo and Mrs. Officer, Toro, you were everywhere homie and we never forgot to show each other the love and respect we earned seperatey but shared together. You were my man, a real dude and one that I won't forget. I remember one of the days we talked about taking over the industry and came with the plan to get you 100k cd's produced overseas for 10 cents each and sell them for a dollar. 10 times the initial investment recouped and 100k units in the streets. Genius plan, when I saw you with that stack of discs professionally packaged, ready for retail, I was impressed. I think I smiled for a week because I knew you were going to make it. We never even had a followup conversation you just took the initiative and made it happen. Its small things like that why, we respect you.

In this tragedy big homie, this loss that we don't want to endure the look on your face when I saw you over this past birthday weekend is emblazed on my mind, fresh off a new deal, 2 chains on and the keys to that brand new car! That was a great day. Happy isn't the word, I'm dam proud of you. There's a list of reasons why your name will be spoken proper and your legacy will live on. This city owes you, you have my word that the streets are proud of you, the industry respects you and the people miss you already!

To the people, the 8&9 Alliance, the fans of Toro and the people who rock with us. I appreciate if you take the time to call 99 Jamz and remind them that Toro went hard for his city, he repped 99 100% of the time. Toro's single "RIDE" should be in steady rotation at this point, featuring Rick Ross, its a banger.

Eight & Nine and Dunkxchange are back at it agian in Mia for the 3rd quarter, DXC will be going down! The event is a two day event. On the 27th we will be hosting a DXC skate day at the MIA skatepark in Doral with special prizes and give aways for the event. The Sk8 event will be a fun day dedicated to skate boarding and hanging out. There will be no selling shoes or trading just skating. This event will go from 1pm to 4pm and will cost 8 bucks with a purchase of a DXC presale ticket or 10 bucks without, this will allow you to skate all day long.



On Sept 28th the DXC will be at Club Metropolis(950 NE 2nd Ave, Downtown Miami). The event time will run from 1pm to 6pm and will be all ages. This is the event that will have the actuall trading and selling take place. The cover charge will be $10 bucks. Eight & Nine Designs will be there with new product for the low!! We let you save money for kicks!! If you come through dunk xchange and mention this blog you get a free gift automatically from the 8&9 table!!

In any culture these numbers are constant… never changing as they appeal to everyone whether they surf, skate, or are involved with the street/urban culture. Numbers are a universal language!WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE OF THE IDEOLOGY OF 8&9?
8&9: Having lived in Boston, New York, and Miami there would have to be a mix of seeing and being involved with different aspects of life. The style we want to provide is eclectic and we were into skateboard culture before the X-games or street culture before it became commercial. We remain true to what we believe and stand for.
WHERE DOES THE DIFFERENTIATION COME FROM?

This is pretty much historic, Kid Capri on the 1 and 2's & KRS-ONE live performing tracks like Criminal minded, ova here, south bronx, step into the realm and of course the bridge is over. The 8&9 Alliance was lucky to be in the building but the support/endorsement from KRS himself for Cop Don't Shoot is something we greatly appreciate.

In case you are under 16, live in the woods or just aren't familiar, KRS-ONE is a grammy-nominated iconic hip hop figure, and arguably one of the greatest ever. He's an outspoken MC and a ministry for revolutionary mind states that uplift and progress the community.

For these reasons and some personal ones, we are grateful to KRS for his sincere support and we look forward to doing bigger things together in the future!

We strongly believe that something needs to be done with the American Criminal Capture/Prosecution/Detention industry to restore JUSTICE and REHABILITATION. Remember when officers were "to protect and to serve" and when it wasn't strange to ask one for directions? Point is that the police are trained to mobilize like gangs so we are starting a movement using facebook and hopefully we can bring awareness to this problem and give people an outlet of expression with the Cop Don't Shoot T-Shirts. This is a powerful message and if everyone gets on board we can definitely make both noise and impact.

It's good to be back. Actually, Eight & Nine never left. As the loyalists know we've been marketing, promoting, creating, & networking to position 8&9 exactly where you want it. Our banner years are approaching, 2008&9 are right around the corner and strategically everything has come together for us.

Personally, I'm excited to be writing and I want to explain what is to come. 8and9.blogspot.com is something we should have done years ago. This is the place you will find all the 8&9 news, and see new products before they are for sale. You'll see our thoughts on everything from music to fashion to biters copy cats & mimics. You will also see photos of 8&9 models, shoots, dj's, artists, parties and randomness from our daily lives. We are this culture. We are the true fusion of all that is street, skate, surf, hiphop and punk. We've done it all and will continue. Eight & Nine is not a corporate rendition or an extra source of income for this month's hot celeb. We are real people with real principles and real hunger really making it happen. We have done Cut N Sew before anyone made the term a trend. We have lost some good people along the way and left a lot behind.
